SEGAMBUT MP Hannah Yeoh has challenged ministers, deputy ministers and parliamentarians of Barisan Nasional (BN)/Perikatan Nasional (PN) to upload online their annual Member Of Parliament (MP) allocation to ensure the prevalence of transparency as well as to stem corruption.
“Since I became a representative of the people and had access to government grants, I have made sure the distribution of these provisions are published online (on her website),” she said in her latest Facebook posting.
“This has been consistent since 2008 when I was holding the Subang Jaya Assembly member until now as a MP for Segambut.”
According to the former deputy minister of women, family and community development, the government allocation is after all the taxpayers’ money and should not be spent for the use of political parties.
“I have held this principle since 2008. My hope is that self-involvement in politics can be exemplary and bring positive change to political practice in Malaysia,” asserted the former speaker of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly (2013-2018).
“Different amount allocation every year subject to government announcements and guidelines. Expenditure is controlled by government agencies such as ICU (the Implementation Coordination Unit at the Prime Minister’s Department). Every application is sent to the ICU.”
“I cannot change the entire nation on my own but I can begin with my constituency. Fighting corruption begins with you and I,” added the National DAP assistant publicity secretary.
For election purpose, Yeoh has launched a self-initiated fund-raising campaign by leveraging her FB presence earlier this month.
