FOREIGN investors extended their net selling streak to a second week in a row with net outflow amounting to -RM623.6 mil during the Aug 10-14 trading week following the prior week’s net selling of -RM437.3 mil.
They were net sellers on all five trading days during the week with the highest outflows recorded on Friday (Aug 14) at -RM181.3 mil, according to MBSB Research (formerly MIDF Research).
“This was followed by Tuesday (Aug 11) (-RM171. 4ilm), Thursday (Aug 13) (-RM125.9 mil), Wednesday (Aug 12) (-RM92.2 mil) and Monday (Aug 10) (-RM52.8 mil),” observed the research house in its weekly fund flow report.
The top three sectors that recorded net inflows from foreign institutions were transportation & logistics (RM103.8 mil), telecommunication & media (RM34.9 mil) and energy (RM19.7 mil).
The three largest sectors with net outflows were financial services (-RM469.3 mil), industrial products & services (-RM121.2 mil) and consumer products & services (-RM89.6 mil).
On the contrary, local institutions extended their net buying stint to a third week with RM355.5 mil in net inflow.

Likewise, retailers ended their two consecutive weeks of net selling with inflow of RM268.1 mil.
The average daily trading volume (ADTV) saw a broad-based decrease; retailers were down by -1.1%, local institutions by -10.9% and foreign institutions by -3.7%.
In comparison with another four Southeast Asian markets tracked by MBSB Research, foreign investors reverted to net buying in Thailand after a week of selling with a moderate inflow of US$12.6 mil.
This came as University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce’s Consumer Confidence Index rose to 51.8 in July 2026 from 50.7 in June 2026, a second consecutive monthly increase and the highest reading since March.
However, foreign investors ended two successive weeks of net buying in Indonesia with an outflow of -US$88.4 mil as economic data showed retail sales fell -3.0% year-on-year (yoy) in June 2026, easing from a -3.9% decline in May 2026 and the mildest contraction since the downturn began in April.
Likewise, foreign investors reverted to net selling in Vietnam after a week of net buying with outflow of -US$84.1 mil while the Philippines endured two consecutive weeks of outflows with net selling of -US$59.7 mil.
The top three stocks with the highest net money inflow from foreign investors last week were Westports Holdings Bhd (RM77.0 mil), Axiata Group Bhd (RM54.7 mil) and MTT Shipping and Logistics Bhd (RM21.5 mil). – Aug 17, 2026
