Altimet’s “Aduh Malaysia” song “hijacked” by PN supporters in Padang Serai

BY some strange twist of fate, Pakatan Harapan (PH)’s unofficial election theme song – rapper Altimet’s “Aduh Malaysia” (Sakau, Sakau, Sakau) – was hijacked by Perikatan Nasional (PN) supporters at the Padang Serai election last night.

Several video clips have emerged showing a massive impromptu sing-along session involving hundreds of PN supporters who gathered outside the Kulim Hi-Tech Sports Complex which served as the election counting centre, reported Malaysiakini.

The song, which features lyrics like “Duit aku makin kecik buncit dia / Makin ramai miskin bandar ramai miskin tegar”(“My money gets smaller his stomach gets bigger / The poor are increasing and the cities are gathering more hardcore poor”) and “Siapa sokong penyamun / Bangun yang lama mengelamun / Duit kau aku semua dia sapu”(“Who supports thieves / Wake up those who have long been sleeping / He takes both your money and mine”) had been widely heard throughout PH’s election campaign during the 15th general election (GE15).

To many observers, ‘Aduh Malaysia’ was a dig at BN, which Harapan had often likened to “penyamun” (thieves) over the years.

For the uninitiated, the track is also a familiar tune, as the melody and chorus are a remake of the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee’s Hoi Hoi Ya Hoi song taken off his 1961 hit film Ali Baba Bujang Lapok, which mimics the infamous Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.

Officially launched on September 12 following its live debut at the Rapat Mega Keadilan event the day before, “Aduh Malaysia” has since been aired and performed during PKR ceramahs, events, and other gatherings. – Dec 8, 2022
