MANY take the roof on their heads for granted. But as rental and property prices rise while the economy stagnates, more and more people will experience the heat and rain of a harsh, unforgiving world.
This statement is best portrayed by a recent tragedy where a homeless man was hosed and mercilessly kicked while he lay on the pedestrian walkway, just outside the entrance of AmBank Taman Maluri by a purported woman security guard and cleaner respectively.
The video has since sparked public outcry, being circulated and shared many times over on the social media platforms as well as on WhatsApp groups.
“Hypocrite bank that screams about serving the people with kindness, dignity, compassion and respect when AmBank’s person-in-charge cannot call the police or Social Welfare Department,” lamented a WhatsApp group commenter, adding that the walkway does not belong to AmBank.
The colourful comments continue to pour in and here are but a few of them:

Since the perpetrators are caught on video assaulting the man, he should have little difficulty taking this matter to the police, too.
The video has since been posted on X and the feedback from our fellow netizens is equally interesting.
According to @DanteNazz, he is afraid the homeless man could be a migrant. But are migrants not humans too?
Several others pointed towards the person who recorded the video, stating that he could have stopped them from assaulting the man in the first place.
Then there was a cautious @tolakrasuah advising everyone not to condemn so quickly, but to investigate the matter in detail. Perhaps the homeless man has been advised many times by the people to leave but decided to stay there anyway, hence the harsh treatment.
AmBank has since issued a statement regarding the incident. It appears the security guard who hosed the homeless guy was appointed by an external security service provider appointed at the branch.
On the other hand, the man who assaulted the homeless guy in the video was a street cobbler who was frustrated with him.
“We are also in full cooperation with the relevant authorities and it is our aim to prevent this from ever happening again,” added AmBank. —Nov 25, 2025
