AMANAH won only one seat in the Melaka state election in 2021 but its president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu is confident the party would win in all the seven constituencies it is contesting in the upcoming polls.
In 2021, Adly Zahari retained Bukit Katil for the party. He was also the Melaka chief minister from 2018-2020 when Pakatan Harapan (PH) administered the state.
Mohamad who is also Agriculture and Food Security Minister is confident based on PH’s target to win 18 out of 24 state seats in the election that would be held on Nov 14.
The seven seats where the PH coalition component is battling out are Bukit Katil, Kuala Linggi, Taboh Naning, Telok Mas, Merlimau, Sungai Rambai and Durian Tunggal.
DAP is also contesting seven seats whereas another PH component – PKR – is eyeing 10.
He also viewed the decision to field young candidates as a sign that PH does not have a shortage of young leaders.
Young candidates who are talented and qualified should be fielded, he pointed out. The former PAS leader himself first contested at the age of 27.

Amanah’s youngest candidate Mohammad Mukhlisul Mubin Julasapiyah is also the youngest at 27 in this election. He is a law graduate.
The Melaka Amanah Youth leader would be facing a three-cornered battle to wrestle Kuala Linggi. His two contenders are incumbent Datuk Rosli Abdullah from Barisan Nasional’s (BN) and BERSAMA’s Dr Nur Farhana Hamzah.
The Melaka state polls are being contested by three coalitions including PH. The other two are BN and Perikatan Nasional (PN). Other contending parties include estranged PN component Bersatu and BERSAMA.
Both BN and PN have joined forces in this election even though BN sits in the federal government whereas PN is federal opposition bloc.
Talks on the ground are BN would very likely to retain the Melaka state government this time around.
During the polls in 2021, DAP won four seats whereas PKR lost in all the seats it contested. – Nov 3, 2026
