Amcham applauds govt’s swift actions on MCO

THE American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (Amcham) has applauded the recent swift actions taken by the government, specifically the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti), in engaging with the business community during Movement Control Order (MCO).

The nationwide MCO runs from March 18 until March 31 to contain the spread of Covid-19.

The business association welcomes the decisive move by the government, via the National Security Council, in approving applications from companies within the manufacturing industry which produces essential goods, including the electrical and electronics sector.

“Essentially, these approvals have ensured the business continuity and sustainability of these sectors,” it said in a statement today.

The business association commends the additional measures which the government has prescribed as a precondition for continued manufacturing operations.

It is also thankful for all government officials who have provided clarity on these requirements at short notice, thus ensuring full compliance by its member companies and the business community at large.

“We are very encouraged by the government’s ongoing efforts in addressing the industry challenges for the whole eco-system, ranging from small and medium enterprises to multinational corporations, and in introducing processes that permit critical operations to continue without compromising the health and safety of our workforce,” it added.

Amcham is confident that all of the efforts and measures by Miti will benefit the business community and most importantly the country, in this trying time. — March 23, 2020, Bernama
