BUKIT Gantang Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul reiterated his claims that eight more MPs from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) are to jump ship and declare their support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Hussin last year said he backed Anwar and is now saying the MPs will show support for Anwar soon, indicating the February sitting of the Parliament as a date to look forward to.
He claimed these opposition MPs are waiting for the Dewan Rakyat to resume its meeting next month before declaring that they will back Anwar.
His statement comes despite rumours about plans to change the government through the “Dubai Move”, a move now denied by the top leadership of the PN and by former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who is linked to the plot.
“Seven to eight MPs are waiting to announce their support (for Anwar),” he told reporters at an event at the people’s housing project (PPR) in Kerinchi here today.
“Their approach is to wait for the lower house to resume on Feb 26. They want to wait and observe the political development over the next two months.”
Moreover, the Bersatu MP also said these MPs from Malay-majority constituencies from several states, including PAS-held seats, want to secure funding for their constituencies.
So far, a total of five Bersatu MPs have jumped ship to show their support for Anwar, increasing the tally of MPs in his support in Parliament. – Jan 6, 2023
