Amidst the viral, expensive food trend, one man redefines “expensive” and it goes viral

TIRED of all the viral and must we add, expensive food that is circulating across the cyberspace?

Many are, and they have already stated time and time again that such meals are overpriced, only to be met by replies like, “It’s expensive because you are poor.”

One guy who is likely fed up with such statements has gotten to the cyberspace to define what it means by being “expensive.”

“There are two types of people who would say such things. One is the businessman or poor people,” he said in a video recording.

“A product is considered expensive if its quality is not matching with its price,” he said.

According to him, there is a difference where the product is expensive yet the consumer can afford it. He made a comparison between a bottle of mineral water worth RM1 and a branded mineral water at RM7.

To elucidate the point, he stated that he could afford the latter, although he still thinks it is expensive as it was just a bottle of water.

His video has since sparked various comments from netizens who largely agreed with his simple yet concise statement.

Netizen mhmmdhsm said the customers of these viral and expensive meals are foolish and that the rich are no fool.

adelezar further pointed out that the majority of rich people are more stingy, always complaining about things being expensive or being calculative.

Another netizen added that if the price is RM1,000 but the quality is RM1,500, then it is cheap. “A price of RM15 with a quality of RM2.30 is expensive. This is the reality,” he said.

Notjustlipstik claimed that only the B40 will line up to buy things of no value.

Also, 𝐕𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 said it was best to eat near the mall instead of having one’s meal right in the middle of the heat, rain with a price tag worthy of the Jews.

It seems the viral video has hit a chord with the many frustrated netizens.

Dear stall operators who think of putting too high a price on your meals, do beware because the “It’s expensive because you are poor,” excuse is not going to fly anymore. —Jan 10, 2025
