SELANGOR Menteri Besar (MB) Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari rebutted claims by the outspoken Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Sanusi Md Nor that Selangor benefited from its proximity to Kuala Lumpur and that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) did not play a big role in its development.
Amirudin, who is also the PH Selangor chairman and PKR deputy president said instead that Kuala Lumpur was part of Selangor and successfully became a satellite city in the 1970s.
He added that Kuala Lumpur thus benefited from its strategic location and experienced significant progress altogether.
Nevertheless, he stated that Kedah is far behind.
“Selangor has progressed further and has a higher economic position compared to Kedah, which contributes only less than five percent to the gross domestic product (GDP).
“He (Sanusi) needs to question himself before looking at other places. That’s his problem; his eyes are focused elsewhere, but he doesn’t see the issues and places in his own area,” he added.
Amirudin also said the Kedah MB should pay a visit to Penang before he goes anywhere to see how the state has progressed while Kedah is backward.
“I will explain to him how to develop Kedah, to realise its potential like Selangor,” he told reporters today. – July 9, 2023
