SUNGAI Bakap state assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff has passed away at the age of 56 at 1.38pm today (May 24). He was reported to have been placed in the ICU (intensive care unit) of Seberang Jaya Hospital due to complications in the abdominal area.
The deceased will be prayed for and buried at 6pm today at Sungai Acheh Mosque, Nibong Tebal.
Moreover, this looming by-election will be the second in 2024 since the May 11 Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) state by-election following the demise of three-term DAP assemblywoman Lee Kee Hiong from ovarian cancer on March 21.
Earlier today, Penang PAS commissioner Muhammad Fauzi Yusoff stated that Nor Zamri was in a better condition compared to before.
“I visited him many times before I went to Kelantan last Wednesday … Nor Zamri was in the process of treatment and the doctor advised him to rest,” recalled the Sungai Dua state assemblyman.
“Regarding claims that he was critical, we have respect for the family, so I did not want to issue a statement. We hope he recovers, and can come together in the ADUN session.”
Nor Zamri, who was also suffering from diabetes and hypertension, is the Nibong Tebal PAS chief.
He contested the Sungai Bakap seat in the state election last August and won against Pakatan Harapan’s Nurhidayah Che Rose with a majority of 1,563 votes. – May 24, 2024
