Another sinkhole opens up at Kompleks Bunga Raya terminal, KLIA

AND when we thought the story of sinkholes are about to die down, here comes another rearing its ugly head up to remind us of the impact of our urbanisation.

According to netizen @ on X, a sinkhole had developed at the Kompleks Bunga Raya Terminal, KLIA.

The incident occurred at a maintenance area of KLIA today at 10.00am, reported the Ministry Of Work.

Although the sinkhole appeared at FT26, it is away from the range of the Malaysian Public Works Department and roadcare.

The ministry further identified its position at the road entering to the complex Bunga Raya Terminal KLIA with the size of 4.3 metres long, 5.4 metres wide and 1 metres deep.

Upon examination, a manhole made from the sewage owned by KLIA could be found near the sinkhole area. The ministry suspects that leakage from the sewage pipe was the cause of the sinkhole.

According to the ministry, observation, checks and the establishment of a temporary mobile post is made at the area and a report will be filed soon.

Netizens were quick to add their opinions regarding the topic, with many lamenting the safety of Kuala Lumpur.

One netizen observed that a few years back, flash floods have always occurred in Kuala Lumpur. Hence he is unsurprised with the occurrence of sinkholes this year.

Bang Enzo said that within this year, the story of sinkhole appears to be related to Malaysia and South Korea.

As usual, a picture speaks a thousand words so here is one from netizen Shilpa Sundar.

That said, one can only wonder where the next sinkhole will open up in Selangor.

Each and every one of their occurrence is not only a danger to us all, but symbolic of the care we need to exercise in terms of conservation lest nature itself rise to punish our unrestrained consumption of its resources. – Sept 25, 2024
