Another tree falls in KL, Jalan Pinang temporarily closed

A TREE has fallen at Jalan Pinang in Kuala Lumpur amid heavy rain on Monday (May 13) afternoon, prompting a temporary closure of the road.

According to images from a Kuala Lumpur Command and Control Centre (KLCCC) traffic camera, the tree, located near Menara Prestige, is blocking all lanes on the road, which has been temporarily closed on Monday (May 13).

As seen in viral videos, several parked cars were damaged in the incident but there has been no word of any casualties so far.

A Kuala Lumpur City Hall spokesman said their contractors were already on site.

“Our crew are actively clearing debris and managing the impacts at the affected site as we speak. We urge motorists and the public to exercise caution and avoid these areas until normalcy is restored,” the spokesperson was reported as saying by The Star.

According to an officer manning the KLCCC, apart from the Jalan Pinang treefall incident, minor flash floods were reported in Jalan Awan Besar and the KL Seremban Highway.

The tree is located about 600m away from another tree which toppled along Jalan Sultan Ismail last week on May 7.

Last Tuesday, a large tree fell at Jalan Sultan Ismail, resulting in the death of one man and injuring two others while also suspending monorail services.

The tree brought down a covered walkway as it toppled, while some parts landed on the monorail tracks. – May 13, 2024
