WHILE UMNO insists it shares no formal alliance with DAP, merely cooperating as partners in the unity government, and defending “UmDAP” as a fair if cheeky label for the arrangement, a fresh public rift has erupted, directly pitting the two parties’ top leaders against each other.
In this rift, DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke has denied stating that there is a Team B within his party.
“Does it make sense for me to say something like that? Would I be so foolish in politics to announce the existence of a Team B in this party, and then inform another party about it? I strongly deny it and have never discussed this issue with Zahid,” he said.
Zahid, during his winding-up speech at the UMNO General Assembly 2025 yesterday, claimed that conflicting statements issued by DAP’s top leadership came from a Team B. He said the matter was conveyed to him by Loke.
“That’s right, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said there’s no need to fear DAP. The ones making all sorts of statements are from the Team B in DAP. They have a Team B too. I met personally with their Secretary-General (Anthony Loke),” he was reported as saying yesterday.
Loke replied that this is illogical because in DAP, there is no Team A, B, or C. “We only have one team, which is Team DAP,” he said in a speech at the DAP Selangor Annual Convention 2026, today. —Jan 18, 2025
