Anti-MACC rally to drum up support for Najib slated for this weekend

A RALLY has been mooted at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) this Sunday (Jan 23) by supporters of former prime minister (PM) Datuk Seri Najib Razak to drum up support against the MACC.

This is according to a media release by the Persatuan Sahabat Ulul Amri Malaysia (PSUAM) which claimed that Najib has been victimised and denied his rights by the graft buster agency.

“MACC is abusing its power to hide new evidence – namely the ‘AmBank Report’ which has linked ‘big names’ such as former Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) governor Tan Sri Zeti Aziz and her husband Datuk Tawfiq Ayman – which can free Najib from all charges in his court cases,” PSUAM chairman Syed Muhammad Imran Syed Abdul Aziz pointed out.

Last August, the non-governmental organisation (NGO) made headlines when it petitioned for a royal pardon for Najib. It also petitioned for Najib to become the ‘interim Prime Minister’ to replace the then-embattled PM Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

While Muhyiddin fell after losing majority support in Parliament, he was replaced by Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as Malaysia’s ninth PM.

According to PSUAM, it has previously lodged a report on abuse of power by the MACC at the Putrajaya MACC headquarters and at the Dang Wangi District Police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

Earlier this month, the MACC confirmed that it had opened an investigation paper related to the report made by PSUAM.

“However, we were surprised to find that the police did not open any investigation papers, instead they would only refer to the MACC,” noted the NGO.

“On Nov 19 last year, the country was shocked by the MACC’s official statement that 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Bhd)-related money amounting to RM65 mil was found in the bank account of Tawfik and that the money had been returned by the Singaporean government to Malaysia.”

Similarly, the money belonging to former CEO of SRC International Sdn Bhd Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil amounted to RM3.6 mil was also returned to Malaysia, according to PSUAM.

But the NGO is unhappy that no police action were taken against owners of the accounts. It puts Zeti under additional fire by implying that they are certain that she is the person who advised Najib to open an account in his personal name to receive contributions.

As such, the group is backing Najib in his fight to reverse the 12-year jail sentence against him.

“With the Sunday’s event, we request that the people and all sympathetic parties come forward to support Najib who is being persecuted, oppressed, abused and is being denied his rights and justice,” added PSUAM. – Jan 19, 2022
