Anwar: Civil servants to get over 13% pay rise, highest in history

PRIME Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced that civil servants will enjoy a salary hike of more than 13% starting December this year, the highest increase in the nation’s history.

He said the increase would involve an allocation of over RM10 bil.

“The increase will be more than 13 percent. It is the best increase in history by the Madani government,” he said in his speech when officiating the national Labour Day 2024 celebration in Putrajaya.

The finance minister said under the revised Public Service Remuneration System, the government will ensure that the minimum income for civil servants exceeds RM2,000 per month.

“The current overall minimum income, which includes salary and fixed allowances, is RM1,795 per month,” he said.

In a related development, the PM said he will continue to appreciate and recognise every role workers play as the main driving force for economic progress and national development.

He said the recognition was important to appreciate the contribution given to their respective jobs, which will hopefully provide them with a boost.

“As Malaysia celebrates Labour Day today, it is not as an annual party agenda, but to recognise and appreciate the role of workers, starting at the lowest possible level, up to management.

“I hope this year’s Labour Day will provide a boost so that we can further enhance the recognition in terms of reward, respect and compassion to the workers,” he said in a video on his Facebook page.

Anwar further conveyed his deep appreciation and gratitude for workers’ tireless efforts and unwavering dedication over the years. – May 1, 2024
