Anwar dares PN take legal action as he restates election gambling funds allegations

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has repeated his allegations that Perikatan Nasional (PN) used gambling funds to finance its 15th General Election (GE15) last year. The Tambun MP said PN’s decision to increase the number of lottery draws from eight to 22 times during their administration was not done for free.Speaking at a rally in Kedah last night (July 15), Anwar stated that he is ready to be sued or face action if his statement that the opposition group received funds from gambling companies is false.“Where did all this money come from? Gambling money! I repeat I mentioned gambling money before, but tonight I want to mention the money that helped them a lot.“If you want a challenge, go ahead. If you dare, please sue me. PAS said they didn’t know. It’s okay if you’re in the village. But you’re sitting in the Cabinet. Allahuakbar is shouted all the time,” he added. In December, the PM made the same claim that stirred a storm among his political opponents.Anwar’s statement then led PAS to demand that he provide proof that some of the funding for the PN’s general election campaign was sourced from gambling revenue. The Islamist party’s secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan had stated the bloc would consider suing the PM. However, he did not give Anwar a time frame to bring the evidence forward.“The accusation is baseless and PAS demands the prime minister provide the evidence if there is any. Should he fail, PN will consider legal action against any defaming parties.”But according to Anwar, as Finance Minister, he personally saw files related to this matter. – July 16, 2023
