Anwar expresses confidence in PH holding 3 states, winning over 2 PAS strongholds

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is confident that Pakatan Harapan (PH) will retain the three states it governs and they have a chance to win two more states that are now under PAS.

However, he did not specify which are the two states where he sees PH with a good chance of winning from the PAS.

“Three states (under PH) are strong and stable. Last month, I mentioned that we could win another state. Now, I want to say that we can potentially win almost two more states,” he said during the announcement of PKR candidates for the state elections last night at the Shah Alam City Council Field in Section 7.

However, Anwar reminded the party’s leaders and machinery not to become complacent, even though some research firms appear to be favouring PH.

On the other hand, PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli said all party candidates selected to contest in the state elections will declare their assets to obtain the watikah (commitment letter) from the party.

He stated that candidates will also be required to sign a pledge bond, which has been a customary practise in the party during each election.

“I know there will be noise regarding the asset declaration. We (PKR) have been declaring assets since 2018. This matter should not arise as it has become our norm and process. That’s why we announce the candidates a week before the nomination day, so those who fail to comply won’t get the watikah,” said Rafizi during the same event last night (July 22).

The nomination day for the state elections in Selangor and five other states is set for July 29, with the polling day on Aug 12.

The state elections involve 56 state legislative assembly seats in Selangor, 40 in Pulau Pinang, 36 in Negri Sembilan, 36 in Kedah, 45 in Kelantan, and 32 in Terengganu.

Barisan Nasional, which is currently cooperating with PH, will be contesting 108 state legislative assembly seats, including 12 in Selangor.  – July 23, 2023
