Anwar orders Jazlan’s reappointment as Felcra chairman to be put on hold

FORMER Machang MP Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub’s reappointment as Felcra chairman has been put on hold, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Besides, Anwar claimed to have informed Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi about the matter.

Zahid stated earlier this week (Dec 17) that Jazlan will be reappointed to Felcra after considering the wishes of its settlers. The reappointment of the UMNO politician, on the other hand, drew criticism from social media users and civil society groups.

Moreover, the appointment of politicians to such posts is not a problem but they must be made in accordance with good governance, according to Anwar.

“I want to explain that political figures or MPs may be appointed but we will consider the individual’s professional capabilities and past performance, as well as compliance with regulations and principles of good governance,”  FMT reported Anwar as saying.

Jazlan, who is also the Kelantan UMNO chief, was first appointed Felcra chairman in October 2021.

In addition, Jazlan has worked under former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s cabinet as the rural and regional development deputy minister from 2015 to 2018.

Meanwhile, Government chief secretary Zuki Ali issued a circular to secretaries-general of each ministry on Dec 15 saying the Cabinet had agreed to the immediate termination of the contracts of political appointees.

Those affected are in federal statutory bodies and government companies under the Minister of Finance Incorporated, and government-linked companies (GLCs) and investment companies. – Dec 21, 2022
