PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has clarified that no discussions or proposals regarding amendments to the Federal Constitution have been raised by any leaders in the Madani government, calling a statement by an opposition leader on the matter ‘delusional’.
He urged critics to avoid falsehoods and inciting hatred based on fabricated facts and acknowledged that criticism of the government’s policies is welcome but warned against slander and lies.
“We have never discussed or considered rejecting these principles,” adding that matters related to religion, language, Bumiputera privileges, and the monarchy have never been questioned in the past two years of his leadership.
“Recently, an opposition figure claimed that this government would stray from the path and change the Constitution’s principle of Islam as the religion of the federation. What kind of delusion is this?” said Anwar, speaking at the launch of the National Language Month in Ipoh.
Commenting on the PMs speech, Member of Parliament for Bangi, Syahredzan Johan, criticised the opposition for refusing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the government, stating that the MOU would prevent the spread of slander, particularly on issues related to race, religion, and royalty (3R).
“Slander has become ingrained in their political culture. Without it, they are like fish out of water, suffocating with the truth and thirsting for falsehood,” he said, about the opposition’s allegations. – Oct 6, 2024
