Anwar tells opponents they chose the wrong PM to mess with

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim declared his unwavering commitment to fight corruption and protect the people, despite threats from opponents seeking to topple him from federal power.Addressing PKR’s special congress, the PKR leader vowed not to continue past practices of protecting the corrupt and pledged to take on those guilty of graft. He emphasised that he would not be influenced by threats or attempts to intimidate him.“You want to try to seize power? Go ahead. But it will not be easy,” said Anwar.Without revealing any names, Anwar called out former leaders who had squandered the nation’s wealth and made their families rich when they were in power. His remarks come ahead of a cancelled “Malay Proclamation” gathering, initially led by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Some say the event, along with recent opposition actions, is aimed at stirring racial and religious sentiments, posing a threat to the country’s harmony. The “Malay Proclamation” event, which was scheduled to take place on Sunday (March 19) has been postponed after the organisers failed to secure the venue for the second time. The organisers stated in a statement issued today that the hall management where the event was supposed to be held did not provide any reason for their cancellation of the venue booking.Last week, Anwar instructed security forces to be on alert, refusing to tolerate any action that might escalate racial and religious tensions.Recent corruption charges against opposition leaders, such as Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin have fueled these tensions, according to sources.Anwar insisted that while he would collect taxes from the people, he would also hold tycoons and the super-rich accountable for tax evasion. As Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, Anwar criticised the former PM for hypocritically claiming to champion Malay rights while misusing public funds. He called attention to the fact that this individual held power for 22 years and later another 22 months, only to leave the Malays worse off due to self-enrichment.Anwar encouraged the people to recognise this hypocrisy and rise to defend their rights. — March 18, 2023
