Anwar’s meeting with PAS’s Nik Abduh in Kelantan sparks speculation

IT is widely reported that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim met with the two sons of bereaved PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat, Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz and Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz  in Kelantan yesterday (May 12), while pictures circulated on social media got tongues wagging.

Netizens are either praising Anwar for uniting two brothers who were at odds on the political alignment in the country or they are saying Nik Abduh is joining the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-Barisan Nasional (BN) alliance.

A popular face on social media (Facebook and Twitter) Najib Bakar wrote“Previously, Nik Abduh and Nik Omar were at odds with each other due to political factions in PAS Kelantan who wanted to eliminate the legacy of  Nik Aziz. Now, the two siblings have been reunited through the efforts of PMX Anwar Ibrahim and Ustaz Herjunot Ali. Thank God!”

In response to his post, his followers had this to say:

“Anwar is an exemplary Muslim leader. Thank God, we are proud of this PM, in comparison to the previous ones.”

Meanwhile, user Hazwan Arif Bin Hassan said the photo shows true unity, the building of a united front, not a divisive act like what was done by a mamak (in reference perhaps to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad).

Moreover, user Ammar Nazmi added: “PAS was at its best during the era of the late Nik Aziz. It was respected and admired by various races and religions. May the children of the late Nik Aziz continue the legacy of PAS brought by him.”

In another thread on the photograph of Anwar with the sons of Nik Aziz, Mohd Sobri said: “Nik Abduh meets Anwar. Haji Hadi meets Dr Mahathir. Which side will the offspring follow?

“God willing, the legacy of Tok Guru [Nik Aziz] will continue to thrive in Kelantan. Nik Abduh joins PH/Amanah and becomes the Menteri Besar of Kelantan.”

Another photograph is circulated in WhatsApp groups saying Nik Abduh is joining the PH-BN alliance and will be chosen as the new menteri besar if they win in the upcoming state elections. — May 13, 2023
