“Apartheid academy”: Akmal praises cops for probing MKini columnist; 14 police reports lodged thus far

UMNO Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has hailed Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain’s revelation that the police have opened up investigation papers into Malaysiakini columnist Andrew Sia for labelling Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) as an “apartheid academy”.

The investigation against Sia was over intentional insult intended to provoke a breach of the peace under the Penal Code and for the use of insulting words under the Minor Offences Act.

Sime 14 reports have been received nationwide by the police as of 6pm yesterday, according to Harian Metro.

Razarudin said the first report against Sia’s opinion entitled Our Apartheid Academy, UiTM which was uploaded/published on Wednesday (May 22) at 10.30am was lodged by a 37-year-old information head of a political party at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters yesterday (May 24).

Alhamdulillah, police reports have been lodged against writer Andrew Sia by UMNO Youth and our undergraduate brothers and sisters very recently,” Akmal who is also the Merlimau state assemblyman penned in a recent TikTok video post. “Inshallah, there would be more to follow suit from UMNO Youth all over Malaysia.”

Added the Melaka state EXCO for Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security who has rallied the UMNO Youth wing to retaliate again Sia and Malaysiakini by lodging police report nationwide:

“We request that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) investigate and take action against Andrew Sia and Malaysiakini under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, the Sedition Act 1948 and the Printing Press and Publication Act 1948 so that there is no repetition of publications that fan 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues.
