“Appreciation” is in the air at SEGi University & Colleges

SEGi University & Colleges takes pride in its strong presence in the academic arena as one of Malaysia’s premier higher education providers.

For over 45 years, SEGi has built its strengths in three key areas – globalisation, digitalisation, and diversification – ensuring students receive the best quality education in an inclusive academic setting, aligned to our brand ‘The Best In You, Made Possible’.

SEGi is home to approximately 18,000 students from nearly 100 countries across five campuses across the Klang Valley, Penang and Sarawak. As such, maintaining a strong bond between students and lecturers is a top priority for SEGi.

The open communication channels practised across SEGI’s campuses means students are assured that their needs are met throughout their study years.

Further, lecturers also play a vital role in the process, not only in conducting classes but also in providing guidance and support along the way, more so during the pandemic outbreak.

Despite all studies conducted remotely, SEGi’s lecturers went above and beyond their job scope in ensuring that students could continue their education with little to no disruption during these challenging times.

Fast forward to the present day where the efforts made by the lecturers paid off. Over 5,000 SEGi graduates have received their well-earned scrolls in recent months, and new students are arriving on campus to begin their academic journey.

With students, lecturers, and staff back on campus, SEGi University & Colleges hosted the Teacher’s Day and Aidilfitri Open House at the university June 9, 2022. The event was well-received, where the management, lecturers, students, and guests came together for a feast, shared laughter, and live entertainment.

“This is the first event we have organised involving students and lecturers,” said Professor Dr. Azrin Esmady Ariffin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs and Dean of Faculty of Optometry and Vision Sciences at SEGi University.

“I have been a teacher all my life, 37 and a half years to be precise. Teacher’s Day is a special day for all educators, and it always warms my heart to see students break bread with their lecturers in events like today.

“In fact, my former students, who are now in their 50s and holding positions of importance, still send me messages like ‘Selamat Hari Guru, Prof. We appreciate what you have done for us’.

“Being an educator is a very noble profession, and I don’t think I can do anything else better than it.”

“For over two years, we have conducted our classes online or in hybrid format due to the restrictions implemented to combat COVID-19,” commented Stella Lau Kah Wai, the newly-appointed Managing Director of SEGi University & Colleges.

“Although they have met on screen, the students and lecturers do not know one another in real life. This auspicious event is the perfect ice breaker, rekindling friendships and making the campus come alive again.

“We hope that this Teacher’s Day and Aidilfitri Open House celebration will kickstart other campus activities like 6 signature International Cultural Night,” she added.
