ARB Bhd (previously Aturmaju Resources Bhd ), a leading provider of internet of things (IoT) and information technology (IT) solutions, has set up a research & development (R&D) unit to focus on R&D of information technology (IT) and internet of things ( IoT) to strengthen the innovation ecosystem in Malaysia.
Towards this end, its wholly-owned subsidiary ARB Lab Sdn Bhd had recently set up ARB R&D Sdn Bhd to enable the group to push forward its agenda of developing an R&D centre to bridge the gap between impactful research and patented technology within the country.
The R&D unit will be spearheaded by a group of experienced R&D technical committee members who hold various copyrights and patents and are responsible for working closely to meet industrial needs.
“Our goal is to drive the development of patented technology and help to accelerate the commercialisation of technology, especially those in relation to IoT,” commented ARB’s executive director Datuk Seri Larry Liew Kok Leong.
“Being one of the leading IoT players in Malaysia, we will be able to nurture strong collaboration and strategic partnerships between research institutes and IoT players in the industry.”

On workable way is to collaborate with local universities in Malaysia to develop an R&D centre and innovation ecosystem.
This is possible given the R&D unit is spearheaded by a group of experienced R&D technical committee members who hold various copyrights and patents and are responsible for working closely with the industrial needs.
Moreover, it will act as a centre of excellence for researchers on local universities to push for a more integrated collaboration with universities to monetise intellectual properties (IPs). The R&D unit targets to register and commercialise more than 10 copyrights in ARB’s FY2022.
“This collaboration will stimulate the growth in the R&D industry in Malaysia as it serves as an R&D centre for innovative solutions and new technology. Our business model is to nurture the entrepreneurship of our researchers to commercialise IPs products,” added Liew.
Currently, ARB has engaged with researchers from various local universities to commercialise IoT systems as well as to form numerous R&D entities that specialise in different technologies such as development of cloud applications, artificial intelligence, big data analysis and mobile IoT.
Recognised as the top company in the Southeast Asia region in Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Ltd’s 2020 Asia Pacific Technology Fast 500 Index, ARB believes that continued investment into R&D is key to sustaining its multi-fold growth earnings.
At 4.03pm, ARB was unchanged at 27 sen with 1.47 million shares traded, thus valuing the company at RM164 mil. – Nov 3, 2021
