Are the price of drinks nowadays excessive? Netizens think not

INNOVATION  is the father of growth. Perhaps this quote is best appreciated in a recent viral post on X which pointed out how a RM0.99 lemon could be turned into a RM7.50 lemonade. Extortion or just good marketing? You decide.

Megat ‘Adli who brought the topic to light further wondered how many hundreds of percentage in profit one could derive from it.

In reply, netizen Stella pointed out that people could just buy the lemon and make the juice themselves.

“You’re an adult. If you want people to make for you then pay the price,” she said.

Echoing her thoughts was maya who said the shop needs to pay for the license, rental, salary and other expenses. “If you don’t want to drink at the shop, then make it yourself,” she added.

“If you are lazy, pay RM7.50 for the same thing. If you are lazy and poor, just drink pipe water,” said Khairul Musa.

In reply to the people who suggested that the customers make their own drinks, one netizen said he once did exactly that.

However, he was barred from entering the restaurant by the waiter since outside food and drinks were not allowed there.

On a separate note, naqiu claimed the profit margin from selling drinks have always been higher.  Another netizen said that if honey was added, the price could go up to RM11.50.

Hilariously, Israqi Shazmy sarcastically commented that should the seller be seen wearing black gloves, the price would shoot up to RM14.90.

Prompted by the topic, Satoo shared that he once paid for a small glass of lemonade at RM4 which was no larger than his hands, hinting that this could be extortion.

Then there was one netizen who suggested several alternatives if people were looking for an affordable drink.

Qi added that he sold lemonades at RM2.50 and already felt that it was expensive.

Perhaps the most pertinent comment to sum up this topic came from rajaei who said, “Willing buyer, willing seller.” —Feb 26, 2025
