“Are they asking us to support an enemy we have fought for years?”

AS a voter who has participated in more than eight general elections so far, I have always remained loyal to DAP, especially the late Karpal Singh in Jelutong, Penang during my years there.

When I was in Penang, I admired the man for his consistency and dedication in fighting for what he felt was right.

However, sadly over the years, I have been losing faith in the party and what it used to stand for, especially after its veteran leaders either passed on or just called it a day from politics.

Today marks a black day in Malaysian politics for voters like me. DAP is now sleeping with the enemy – UMNO – a party riddled with corrupt practices and one which plundered the nation for decades.

Voters like us fought tooth and nail to topple UMNO with the hope of a better future for our children, one without abuses of power and corruption.

But what has happened now? DAP and PKR have stabbed us in the back. They are now asking us to throw our support behind UMNO. Have they forgotten what Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is all about?

He ran to save his own skin when Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was arrested back then and suddenly reappeared out of nowhere and today, the DAP wants us to support him.

Have they forgotten the arrogance, corruption and lack of credibility associated with Zahid and his UMNO stooges?

To me, a layman, it seems like the once hard-hitting, dedicated DAP is now just like its so-called unity partner, UMNO, sleeping with the Devil if they have to just to stay in power.

It is truly a sad, disheartening time in Malaysian politics. DAP and PKR are willing to sell their souls to hold onto their positions.

Voters like me can never imagine ever casting our votes for UMNO, a party we have resented and hated for years.

Stay on with UMNO and together the DAP and PKR will sink. No matter what, justice will prevail and the truth will be exposed.

Unlike DAP and PKR, a large number of voters out there share similar sentiments like mine and will not sell out on our principles and sleep with the enemy we have been battling against for years.

No matter the hunger for power, we cannot sell our souls just to get it. There must be a limit as to who we can work with and who we can support.

UMNO has for years robbed the nation, including the poor people in Sabah and Sarawak. Their leaders have plundered everything they could see and today, DAP and PKR are trying to pull wool over our eyes.

This is. like I said earlier, a truly sad day in the nation’s politics and one that voters should open their eyes to.

We have rejected UMNO for years and for voters like me, we will continue to do so, no matter what people like Anthony Loke or Teo Nie Ching said.

To many of us, these are just political minions hungry for power, without any principles whatsoever. – May 23, 2023
