Astounding 3,321 COVID-19 recoveries, but still 9 deaths

THE Health Ministry announced there was an impressive amount of recoveries today with a record high 3,321 patients discharged, bringing the total number to 94,492.

However, according to the Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, there was a total of 2,295 new COVID-19 cases with nine deaths in the past 24 hours.

The nine deceased were Malaysians between the ages of 41 to 82, all of whom had suffered from pre-existing medical conditions.

“Currently, the total number of infections stands at 117,373,” Noor Hisham said in a statement today.

As of now, there are 22,398 active cases with 125 patients admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) and 51 patients that still requires respiratory assistance.

Of all the cases today, 2,286 of them were local transmissions and nine imported cases, with a majority of them coming from Selangor (638).

Johor reported 580 cases today followed by Penang (288), Sabah (259), Kuala Lumpur (156), Negeri Sembilan (131) and Melaka (95).

There were 47 cases in Kedah, 29 in Pahang, 26 in Kelantan, 16 in Terengganu, 12 in Putrajaya, 12 in Perak, five in Sarawak and one in Labuan. Perlis was the only state that did not report any new infections.

There were 135 cases from clusters in prisons and detention centres, with the Jalan Harapan prison cluster reporting the most with 109 cases.

IKEA closed indefinitely due to COVID-19 infections

IKEA’s Damansara outlet will be closed indefinitely following the detection of several COVID-19 cases involving employees and service partners.

In a Facebook post, the management said it had been advised by the health ministry to close for contact tracing and sanitisation works to be conducted.

It added that customers believed to be close contacts of infected employees will be called up by the health ministry.
