At least Anwar shouldn’t dilly-dally naming his DPM 1, finance minister first

Letter to editor

NEWLY minted Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should name his new cabinet ministers as soon as possible.

While he may not necessarily rush into naming the full cabinet, he could probably name the few critical ones in first round.

The eight deemed vital portfolios are that of:

  1. Deputy Prime Minister 1
  2. Finance Minister
  3. Home Minister
  4. Defence Minister
  5. Education Minister
  6. Health Minister
  7. Law Minister
  8. Economy Minister

Six days have passed since Anwar’s official appointment on Thursday (Nov 24) and the rakyat is eagerly waiting for some key positions to be filled at least.

Any delay could send wrong signals out into the public domain and would be dangerously exposed to unwanted speculation and fake news.

Anwar must be firm and not be seen even remotely as being pressured by the leaders of the various political parties that are part of his unity government.

The unity government is made up of nearly 15 individual parties and that is indeed setting a new precedent for the country.

Anwar needs to get the ball rolling as far the cabinet is concerned.

Within less than 24 hours of him being appointed, demands from various directions have already poured in.

The expectations are extremely high and whatever said and done, there will be groups that will use Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) 15th General Election (GE15) manifesto as a yardstick to measure him meeting the various promises made to the rakyat during his campaign in the run-up to the national poll.

Now that the dust had settled in Pahang and Perak, and the issue of premiership is over, now is time for Anwar to spring into action by forming a formidable Cabinet.

All eyes are on him.

Anwar should at least make a statement as to when he is expected to name his cabinet whether partially or full.

Yes, he needs time but how much of that will be appreciated by all? – Nov 30, 2022
