FROM sweet, pure honey to juicy, fuzzy peaches, now comes the season of the mouthwatering anytime-snack: the deliciously crunchy table grapes, brought to Malaysians by Taste Australia.
With over 40 types to choose from, table grapes from Australia are categorised into seeded and seedless varieties in red, black or green.
The four of the most popular include the Thompson Seedless, Menidee Seedless, Crimson Seedless and Red Globe, which are still in high demand for domestic and export markets. In fact, Australian table grapes are one of the biggest fresh exports from Australia into Malaysia, which saw a 28% increase last year.
Realising the potential these grapes are able to offer, there has been a growing number of innovative and unique varieties that are developed by commercial breeders such as Adora, Cotton Candy, Golden Globe, Sweet Sapphire, Alison and Midnight Beauty.
During a virtual event launching of the Embracing Grapeness campaign, it was revealed that there are currently approximately 900 table grape growers throughout Australia.
Among these grape varieties that are commonly exported, the most sought-after variety of Australian table grapes is the Crimson Seedless.
According to Taste Australia trade and investment commissioner of Malaysia and Brunei Melanie Harris, Australian table grapes are currently being exported to 42 countries around the world. – April 16, 2022
