Authorities reminded not to take it easy with PAS’ version of anti-gov’t ‘jihad’, martyrdom

PRO-MADANI government keyboard warriors have trained their guns on celebrity/freelance preacher Ustaz Azhar Idrus for linking political opposition to martyrdom (mati syahid) while insinuating resistance against Malay rulers.

This comes on the back of Bersatu president and Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin having faced police questioning over seditious remarks made against former Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA) and Pahang ruler Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah while campaigning in the recent Nenggiri by-election.

“An extreme statement from a political teacher. Is the Malaysian government the enemy of Islam? Are our Kings enemies of Islam? Can one achieve martyrdom by opposing the Malaysian government and our Kings?” lambasted social media influencer Amer Hamzah (@amer7211) on the X platform.

Tagging Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail in his post, Amer Hamzah added:

“Islam is not the exclusive property of PAS. Not joining or supporting PAS does not make one leave Islam. Stop this stupidity.”

For context, Amer Hamzah was commenting on a video clip by a self-proclaimed PAS hater Razmin277 (@razmin_afifi) who posted the reference to jihad and martyrdom by the 60-year-old Kuala Terengganu-born Azhar during the packed Bicara Santai Murabbi in Marang which happens to be PAS president Tan Sri Hadi Awang’s parliamentary constituency.

Elaborating further on the PAS version of waging jihad (holy war) and martyrdom, Amer Hamzah recapped how similar words were expressed by Hadi as a mandate in the run-up to the Memali incident on Nov 19, 1985 which sadly led to the death of 14 PAS followers and four policemen while dozen others were injured.

“Mahathir (then Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) claimed that the dead PAS followers died for an unworthy cause (mati katak) but Hadi pronounced them martyrs.”

In the same light, Amer Hamzah expressed grave concern that Azhar who is said to be a life PAS member is now singing the same tune in front of PAS followers.

“Although it is not stated which government or which leader, those with common sense would understand that this is not aimed at Israel,” warned Amer Hamzah.

“What are the end effects and consequences of this stupidity for a multi-ethnic and religious country? Surely, very dangerous!” – Aug 23, 2024
