Autistic McD employee assaulted at Klang Valley workplace; mum demands justice

IN a heartfelt plea, a mother of an autistic boy has sought for justice to be served after he was assaulted at his McDonald’s workplace.

The mother claims that her 23-year-old son suffered significant trauma because of the beating and had wanted the police to investigate the matter.

She is unhappy that the police have “advised” her to drop the case as it would necessitate the remand of both parties, citing that the other person involved also suffered injuries from the scuffle.

The police line of reasoning to drop the case? They do not have a holding cell for OKU (person with disability) suspects.

The mother is patently unhappy at this and says her son has never previously been involved in any altercation with this being the first incident.

The case was highlighted on the X platform by MALAYSIA MOST VIRAL (@MALAYSIAVIRALLL) with the hope that a lawyer could come forward to assist on a pro-bono basis.

It was also highlighted that the young man had been previously named employee of the month at his place of employment.

The post has gone viral, generating 1M views at time of publication with many expressing disbelief at the cop’s response. A few calling out the police attitude as ‘laziness’, plain and simple.

A few commentera described the Malaysian law as strange given that the “victim”, too, had to be kept in a lock-up pending police investigations.

Whilst another pointed out that it wasn’t difficult for the police to get another balai (police station) with the necessary facilities to assist with the investigation.

One reckoned that the police response could be a consequence of “hiring Mat Rempit who probably saw nothing wrong with such behaviour”. How is the country going to be safe, it was further lamented.

One netizen helpfully pointed to the Bar Council and the National Legal Aid Foundation to seek the necessary help and advice.

Many lamented that forcing the issue by making it go viral seems to be the only way to get the cops to move.

It would appear the police public image has taken a severe battering recently with cases of sexual harassment to destroying of evidence in a murder trial eroding public confidence in the PDRM.

Now, a mother’s plea for justice for her handicapped son has been dismissed with the flimsiest of excuses. Thank goodness for social media that will perhaps spur the cops into action. But why must it come to this? – Dec 31, 2024
