THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki has denied accusing former premier Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin of wrongdoing in the Spanco Sdn Bhd saga.
Azam said that the statement issued before by the MACC was general in nature and had never implicated Muhyiddin in the case. At the same time, he also questioned the meaning of Muhyiddin’s denial.
“What does he (Muhyiddin’s denial) mean? I only made a statement (the Spanco issue) when asked (by the media) whether he (Muhyiddin) will be called (to testify). I stated that I did not deny, nor did I reject (calling Muhyiddin to testify), but it depends on the MACC investigating officer.
“So I am no longer saying or making any assumptions (linking Muhyiddin in the Spanco issue). That is a normal thing when we make a statement about the possibilities that will happen (in the MACC investigation),” he stated at a press conference today.
However, Azam also mentioned that if necessary for the ongoing investigation, MACC will summon Muhyiddin to provide testimony, leaving the decision to the investigating officer.
On Saturday (Feb 24), Muhyiddin who is also the Perikatan Nasional chairman, reportedly denied allegations that he was involved in wrongdoing in the awarding of government vehicle supply and maintenance contracts to Spanco.
He noted that these were malicious accusations that were circulating on social media platforms. – Feb 25, 2024
