Azmin met PKR leaders? Be wary of “Machiavellian” Anwar’s psy-war, Chegubard says

A PARTI Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) leader urged the public to be wary of speculation that fellow party leader, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali had held talks with several PKR leaders in a bid to return to their fold.

“Anwar is a true-blooded Machiavellian. Horse trading and changing political allies based on vested interest is nothing new to him.

“In 2020, when everyone was busy with the Sabah state election, he managed to con Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to misuse UMNO’s letterhead to get sign letters indicating support for him to become prime minister,” said its election strategist Badrul Hisham Shaharin, popularly known as Chegubard, in a Facebook post.

Yesterday, Malaysiakini alleged that Azmin had met two emissaries from PKR recently about the former’s future in Bersatu.

Citing sources, the portal claimed that the Gombak MP was attempting to get some “insurance” for his political future. It was also indicated that Anwar was aware of the meeting that took place.

However, Azmin issued a statement reiterating his commitment to Bersatu, a party he joined in 2020 after defecting from PKR, a political outfit he helped establish in 1999.

On that note, Badrul accused Anwar of being desperate to become prime minister and was bent on making the alliance between Perikatan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan a success, despite resistance to him helming Putrajaya even if the cooperation materialises.

“But when negotiations fail, he will expose the meetings to cover himself. I have dealt with Anwar before. He will call for a meeting and persuade us to support him.

“When it fails, he will get his minions to spread the word about the meetings,” he claimed.

PKR disillusioned

On the allegations against Azmin, Badrul opined that Azmin met the same fate as he did in the past, given that attempts to entice the former back to PKR had failed.

“The reality is PKR is in disarray following their marred party elections recently. Many senior PKR leaders are getting frustrated with Anwar.

“In the party polls, a state exco and a deputy speaker lost. In fact, an aide to Anwar is already talking about his boss’s hypocrisy after losing the race to a menteri besar,” he remarked.

It is to note that Badrul himself was rising a star in PKR for years before getting sacked from the party in 2016 for defying party orders. – June 18, 2022
