Bangkok’s rally on Tuesday left at least six policemen injured

WHEN clashes broke out between anti-protesters and the authorities in Bangkok yesterday (Tuesday), at least six policemen were injured from the incident, where one was shot in the leg and three of them were hit with shrapnel from a homemade bomb.

The protest was mobilised by the United Front of Thammasat and Demonstration, that repeated its demand for the Thailand Prime Minister Prayuth Chan o-cha to step down due to the government’s poor handling of he COVID-19 situation and slow vaccine roll out.

According to the Metropolitan Police Bureau deputy commissioner Pol Maj Gen Piya Tawichai, a total of six protesters were arrested and nearly 100 motorcycles were confiscated.

Although the exact number of injured protesters remain unknown, the Rajavithi Hospital reported that 10 of them were admitted to the hospital on the very same day.

During the incident, the police used water cannons, fired tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd at the Din Daeng Intersection. – Aug 11, 2021
