BAT’s Beyond Benih boosts food security for 155,000 B40 communities, set for expansion in 2026

BRITISH American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad (BAT Malaysia) or the Group) has shared the 2025 progress of Beyond Benih, the group’s flagship community investment programme which supports B40 communities through sustainable, community-led farm gardens.

Since its launch in 2022, the programme has benefitted around 155,000 beneficiaries by providing access to affordable, fresh produce grown through good agricultural practices.

To date, 22 community gardens have been established across Peninsular Malaysia, operated by 240 Resident Association (RA) members who lead daily operations.

These gardens drive sustainable livelihoods by enabling residents to grow their own produce, with 60% of the produce sold to beneficiaries at 30% below market price and the remaining 40% at market price to generate revenue to sustain the gardens.

Beyond Benih is implemented in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture (DOA), local authorities and RAs, equipping communities with funding, resources, agricultural knowledge and technical guidance.

“We remain committed to maintaining a tangible difference for Malaysians. By developing larger, higher-capacity gardens and expanding into new states, we aim to support even more families and build long-term resilience,” said BAT Malaysia managing director Nedal Salem.

“Beyond Benih reflects our long-term commitment to empowering communities in meaningful, practical ways. BAT Malaysia aims to support an estimated 250,000 beneficiaries by the end of 2026.”

Through the years, the programme has also received multiple recognitions at state-level events for innovation and community impact. ‒ Jan 2, 2026
