PROFESSIONAL men’s singles badminton player Lee Zii Jia acknowledged that there is much work ahead to reach his peak performance on the world stage. He kindly requested that supporters be patient with him during his journey.
Currently ranked 17th in the world, he noted that patience is needed for him to keep progressing in his attempt to regain his best form.
Lee emphasised that the process of regaining his form is gradual and requires taking it one step at a time. He also added that being outside the top 10 players list has relieved him of any additional pressure.
“There’s still a lot to do to regain confidence. It’s a step-by-step process that requires time. I have no choice but to be patient,” Badminton World Federation (BWF) quoted him as saying.
However, his dream of advancing to the finals of the Australian Open was cut short on Saturday (Aug 5).
He lost to China’s Weng Hong Yang with a score of 19-21, 21-13, and 13-21 in Sydney.
Despite that, supporters were thrilled by Lee’s impressive performance in the semi-finals and expressed their excitement while sending him best wishes for his future attempts in other tournaments.
Moreover, The former All England champion will next compete in the World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, starting from Aug 21 to 27.
On Twitter, some supporters praised Lee’s match against Weng, considering it a commendable effort and they firmly believed that he gave his best.
Nevertheless, Zii Jia conceded that his efforts were not sufficient to overcome his opponent.
“Hong Yang played well. His physical and mental levels seemed well prepared. I will prepare myself for the next tournament.” – Aug 6, 2023
