Bersatu fires back at PAS: “RM43,000 cannot buy out Muhyiddin’s role in PN’s rise

BERSATU has accused PAS of treating a monthly cheque as a licence to sideline its partners, after the Islamist party boasted of being the biggest financial backer of Perikatan Nasional (PN).

The row erupted when PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, who is also Kota Bharu MP, told a ceramah in Kubang Kerian last night that PAS had “contributed a lot” to the coalition.

Each of its 43 lawmakers, he said, hands over RM1,000 a month, adding up to RM43,000.

Other parties, he claimed, chip in only occasionally. PAS kept paying even when Bersatu’s Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin chaired PN, Takiyuddin said, until the party felt Muhyiddin had failed to lead the coalition.

Bersatu secretary-general R. Sri Sanjeevan wasted no time in responding.

“Recognising the joint contributions reflects political maturity,” he said in a statement.

“Raising the monetary contribution and belittling the roles of associates depicts a lack of kindred spirit.”

He did not dispute that PAS should pay its share.

“It is only right for PAS to contribute. What isn’t right is thinking that RM43,000 a month can erase the role of Bersatu and the leadership of Muhyiddin that led to PAS’ historical victory.”

Sanjeevan then reached for the strongest weapon in his arsenal: PAS’s own president. Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

He reminded Takiyuddin, Hadi had himself acknowledged that the party’s victory came from cooperation within PN.

“Don’t claim as if the entire coalition survives on PAS’ goodwill,” he warned.

He also questioned PAS’s own record at the helm, noting that PN was deregistered less than eight months after PAS took over as chairman.

“Financial contribution is not a license that allows you to put the constitution on the back seat and belittle partners,” Sanjeevan said.

The war of words comes just a day after PN was deregistered on yesterday (20 October 2026), following complaints filed by Bersatu.
