BERSATU deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin who is also the Opposition Leader, expressed readiness to collaborate with UMNO, a long-time rival, to achieve shared political goals.
Speaking on the Keluar Sekejap podcast hosted by former UMNO leaders Khairy Jamaluddin and Shahril Hamdan, he argued that if both parties share the same struggle, there’s no need for division.
He urged leaders to set aside egos for the nation’s benefit.
Additionally, Hamzah criticised the Madani government’s economic claims as exaggerated, citing a gross domestic product growth of 5.1% – not 5.9% – and alleging stock market strength stems from government-linked companies, not foreign investment, calling for greater transparency.
On unity with UMNO, Hamzah said: “If the struggle is the same, why should there be two parties? Therefore, leaders must let go of their egos and strengthen the principle of honesty for the country’s sake.”
Meanwhile, on government transparency, he said: “What’s wrong with a leader (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) accepting criticism to fix various weaknesses in governance? Everything we point out is dismissed as wrong.” — March 22, 2025
