Bersatu lawmaker claims gov’t offered agreement to opposition leader for allocation

BERSATU lawmaker has alleged that the government made a Confidence and Supply Agreement (CSA) offer to opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, contingent upon allocations for Perikatan Nasional (PN)-held constituencies.

“An offer has been made to support [Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership]. It would be acceptable if it only pertained to allocations, but there are conditions attached,” Ketereh MP Datuk Khlir Mohd Nor disclosed to Utusan Malaysia.

“The problem is the conditions. What if the conditions are too rigid?”

Khlir highlighted concerns regarding the rigidity of these conditions, asserting that opposition MPs refuse to engage with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadilah Yusof regarding allocations as long as such conditions persist.

“Although we want the allocations, we will not go as individuals, we will only go on a consensus basis,” he added.

In November, Anwar informed the Dewan Rakyat that support for the PM is not a prerequisite for equal government allocation for MPs.

“I want to explain so that the rakyat will understand. I do not restrict allocation for any elected representative. What I want is for the rules to be respected and to hold discussions for the allocation as done during the previous administration.

“There is no pre-condition or condition that support must be given for the prime minister,” he said.

Moreover, Anwar expressed disappointment over the opposition’s manipulation of the issue and reiterated his commitment to equitable allocation for all MPs as outlined in Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) election manifesto.

Furthermore, opposition’s chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan accused the PM of leveraging allocations to garner support from certain MPs, stressing that constituency development funds should be allocated regardless of political affiliation.

Currently, six Bersatu MPs have pledged their support for Anwar’s leadership. – March 15, 2024
