A PKR leader has lauded Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid’s decision to support the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, saying that the support proved that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) MP had a “big heart”.
Perak PKR deputy chairman Mohamad Hairul Amir Sabri said this also indicated that political or ideological differences are not an obstacle to serving the people well.
“This should be a guide and example for every opposition leader as the priority must be placed on the people, as promised during 15th General Election (GE15),” Mohamad Hairul was quoted as saying by New Straits Times today (Oct 13).
He also said the time has come for every representative of the people, especially from the opposition bloc, to “stop all the drama” that does not add value to and disrupts the country’s stability.
“On the other hand, precise support and commitment must be shown to the efforts of the unity government to minimise unemployment, empower economic growth and solve all the problems faced by the people,” he said, adding that this development augured well for the practice of prudent and mature politics in the country.
“Perak PKR also believes that the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim needs to continue to ensure that everything promised can be fulfilled while benefiting the people and the country.”
Mohamad Hairul further expressed believe that the mandate given to the Madani government will be used to achieve the goal of transforming the nation into a sustainable, prosperous and creative country with mutual respect and trust.
Yesterday (Oct 12), Iskandar Dzulkarnain had declared his support for Anwar, saying the move was to ease the burden faced by his constituents over the rising cost of living.
The Bersatu lawmaker said his decision was to see if Anwar would uphold his pledge regarding allocations for lawmakers.
He also said he could no longer stand to see his constituency left behind just because of political differences, but stressed he remained loyal to his party.
At the same time, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad reckoned that Iskandar Dzulkarnain must have his own motives for publicly supporting Anwar, adding that while he did not know why, he believed Iskandar Dzulkarnain’s statement would have a “impact”.
“Maybe he wants to ask for allocations from the Prime Minister. He must have his own reasons, I don’t know,” he was reported as saying by New Straits Times after the Meet the Customers Day at Stadium Indera Mulia here on Thursday (Oct 12).
“He would need to inform the (Parliament) Speaker to be placed with the government backbenchers.
“There will be ramifications from his announcement,” the Kota Tampan assemblyman said, adding that the anti-party hopping law would need to be referred to for any outcome.
In GE15, Iskandar Dzulkarnain garnered 14,380 votes to win a four-cornered fight defeating UMNO candidate Maslin Sham Razman, Amanah candidate Dr Ahmad Termizi Ramli and Pejuang candidate Ahmad Termizi Ramli
