DEWAN Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul has confirmed that Tanjong Karang MP Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi and Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Syed Abdul Fasal had put in a request to move their seats away from the Opposition bloc of their own accord.
Johari was responding to a query from Perikatan Nasional (PN) whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan in the Dewan Rakyat today (Feb 27) on the matter.
“Those who are not comfortable with their current seating position can put in a written request to me…I don’t ask any questions,” he told the Dewan Rakyat
“I will not stop anyone from (asking to change) their seating positions. Whatever the reasons are, as long as they write to me, I can make a decision if it is applicable.
“There are also new MPs who have seniority within the party and I entertain (such requests). I am open about this (seat changes).”
Zukafperi and Syed Abu Hussin are among the six Bersatu MPs who had recently declared their support for the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim-led unity government.
The others four are Jeli MP Zahari Kechik, Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim and Labuan MP Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman.
According to the seating chart obtained from the Parliament website, Zulkafperi, Syed Abu Hussin, Zahari, Mohd Azizi and Suhaili are now seated slightly apart from other PN members.
Only Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain is still seated with other PN MPs.
The quartet is seated a row behind Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, who previously withdrew his support for the unity government. – Feb 27, 2024
