BERSATU announced their intention to file reports with the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), accusing several of their own MPs of accepting bribes and facing coercion to voice support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin disclosed last night (Nov 9) during a press conference held after an emergency meeting of the Bersatu supreme council that the party had gathered substantial evidence regarding the alleged misconduct.
“We have collected all the information. For instance, in the case of Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, he told the last Kelantan Bersatu meeting that he had received offers but he rejected them all.
“However, three days later, he voiced support for the Madani government and we suspect several things that go against the law happened and we have collected data on this,” said the former premier.
Apart from Azizi, three other Bersatu MPs were named in the accusations: Jeli MP Zahari Kechik, Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid and Labuan MP Suhaili Abdul Rahman.
Iskandar and Suhaili have faced severe repercussions within Bersatu for their actions with suspensions lasting four and six years, respectively, issued by the party’s disciplinary board.
Moreover, Muhyiddin further detailed the alleged coercion faced by Iskandar Dzulkarnain.
“In the Kuala Kangsar MP’s case, we have dates of a tauke (business tycoon) a Tan Sri title meeting and threatening that if he (Iskandar) does not support Anwar, the MACC might take action against him.
“So there are elements of intimidation here, and in the other cases, they (the Bersatu MPs) were offered millions of ringgit (to back Anwar). We have collected all the evidence, and will lodge a report with the police and MACC,” added the Pagoh MP.
The support of these four Bersatu MPs brings the number of MPs aligned with Anwar to 150, surpassing the required two-thirds majority. Despite this, all Bersatu assemblypersons pledged their allegiance to Muhyiddin during the emergency meeting. – Nov 10, 2023
