BERSIH has urged former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to take his “wild allegations” on electoral fraud to court while the organisation also urges him to accept defeat.
Bersih said if Muhyiddin truly believes that there has been wide-scale fraud, he should go to court instead of making unsubstantiated statements.
In his Instagram post on Dec 8, Muhyiddin said Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) lied during 15th General Election (GE15).
He also dubbed their lies as “the biggest electoral fraud ever“. These comments did not sit well with the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections.
Bersih chief Thomas Fann said the allegations are similar to the false claims made by former US president Donald Trump.
He also says it is time for Muhyiddin to concede defeat.
“It is time for him to concede and accept the GE15 result and move on to play the check and balance role of the opposition,” said Fann to a local media outlet.
His statement comes after Muhyiddin called the coalition government involving PH and BN “the biggest electoral fraud ever.”
New Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has also called on Muhyiddin to accept defeat and to emulate the Democratic Action Party (DAP).
The DAP had said it would have sacrificed ministerial posts in order to help Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to aced to the top job in Malaysia.
On the other hand, Bersih did not like the Cabinet lineup announced by Anwar last week, saying it is appalled that Anwar chose to lead the crucial finance portfolio by himself.
This weakens the checks and balances required to ensure that Malaysia does not return to the era of Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s administration said Bersih.
The BN chairman Zahid is accused of 47 counts of corruption.
Bersih says he should not have been been named both the Deputy Prime Minister and the Rural and Regional Development Minister. — Dec 11, 2022
