Besut MP: “Anwar, quit the varsity visits and focus on economic recovery now!”

A PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) lawmaker has urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to focus on the people’s woes and the country’s economy rather than making campus visits to meet students.

Besut MP Datuk Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh has likened Anwar’s engagement session with university students to open political campaigns aimed at influencing the votes of the youth ahead of the upcoming state elections.

According to him, young voters are very much aware of the hardship their families are going through.

“They can assess the government’s credibility and performance in solving the country’s economic problems without the need for arranged meetings with the prime minister,” said Che Mohamad in a statement yesterday (June 20).

He also added that the people are still not convinced how the “Madani government” can deal with the people’s problems.

“Anwar’s administration does not appear to care about the people who are hurting financially as a result of the ringgit’s depreciation, rising inflation and stagnating wages.

“Opposition MPs are also still denied their rights to receive allocations that can be used to help ease the burden of the people in their respective areas,” claimed the Besut MP.

He is also of the opinion that Anwar should not intervene in the matter of organising concerts in Terengganu’s public universities.

Che Mohamad was referring to a viral video showing male and female students standing close together during a concert held at a public university believed to be in Terengganu recently.

Moreover, he stressed that the issue should be taken into consideration and resolved between the relevant parties.

The former Setiu MP also noted that Terengganu, for example, has long issued guidelines for the state’s entertainment, cultural performances, tourism and sports that can be used as a reference for university management as they do not require any new strategies or formulas.

Furthermore, Anwar stated during a “Temu Anwar” programme at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan in Bachok that he will meet with the Higher Education Ministry today (June 21) to discuss the organisation of concerts at public institutions of higher learning. – June 21, 2023
