Black flags or not, COVID-19 continues to spread, recording new highs

IN the midst of Malaysian netizens protesting for the Prime Minister to step down by waving their black flags and #Lawan trends on social media, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to tighten its deadly grip on those vulnerable.

Within the last 24 hours, a total of 17,786 new cases were recorded, stamping a new high for the country.

Selangor remained the state with the most cases, singlehandedly contributing 6,400 new infections, over three times more than the next highest contributing state (Kuala Lumpur: 1,962).

And sadly, as cases continue to rise, the number of deaths also continues to remain high at 165 today, bringing the country’s death toll to 9,024.

However, there were 11,718 recoveries achieved today, adding to the total of 914,639 to date.

With 189,609 current active cases, 1,062 of the patients are in intensive care units (ICU), with 534 requiring ventilator support. – July 31, 2021
