BMW driver shirks RM43k payment and crashes into mechanic

ENTREPRENEURS and businessmen are already aware how difficult it is to chase their clients for payment, especially those who provide long credit terms.

But for a certain mechanic from Taman Setia Tropika, Johor Bahru, chasing for payment was akin to a scene from Need For Speed.

The tragedy was brought to light in a post on Facebook by netizen Torn Ah who stated that a customer approached them to replace the tires, rims, abalone and more, totalling to a cost of about RM38,000.

Upon returning the next day, the customer brought along another friend and informed them that he wanted to test drive the vehicle first before making payment.

Suspicious, Torn Ah ordered one of his employees to follow him during the “test drive,” sitting in the passenger seat. During the test drive, the customer halted the car and reported a knocking noise coming from the boot.

The BMW driver then asked the staff accompanying him to inspect the boot. When the staff member opened the boot, the BMW driver’s accomplice sprayed him with pepper spray, causing temporary blindness.

The driver and his accomplice then fled the scene. The mechanic who witnessed the incident tried to stop the suspects by grabbing onto the car’s side mirror but nearly got hit at a traffic light when he fell and rolled on the ground, injuring his left elbow.

The authorities have since made an official statement, with the total loss estimated at RM43,000. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, which could result in a prison sentence of up to 10 years if the suspects are convicted.

Additional charges include Section 324 for voluntarily causing harm with dangerous weapons and Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving. – Sept 12, 2024
