Barisan Nasional (BN) has officially secured victory in the Mahkota by-election, amassing over 27,995 votes according to final results. BN candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah triumphed over Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Mohamad Haizan Jaafar (7300 votes) in a closely watched straight fight.
The win is a major success for BN, as their vote count far exceeds projections for a 50% turnout out of a total of 55% voter participation.
As of 6pm, early results showed BN taking a commanding lead, bagging 3,119 votes from early ballots compared to 1,088 votes for PN. Many of the early votes came from the Mahkota military camp, one of the largest in Johor.
The victory further strengthens BN’s position as the dominant party in the region, as they continue to consolidate their influence in the state. – Sept 28, 2024
