Boy causes massive explosion by popping firecracker into sewer

IT IS all good during Chinese New Year to usher away the bad luck with a bang. But when the bang gets too big, even the Chinese who are fond of firecrackers know that perhaps things should have been dialed down.

Tell that to a young boy from China who somehow had the terrible idea of popping a firecracker into the sewage system.

Alone, the explosive should have been negligible. But together with the saturated methane, it caused a massive explosion underground that turned turtle some vehicles.

Videos provided in the comment section showed that the child had been taken away by the authorities, together with his mother.

They’re not going to charge him but they will probably make his parents pay for the damage,” claims netizen @.

“This should be an ad for family planning,” said Aiman, who is clearly not into children.

네싸 added that the child should be thrown into jail although we do think it is a little harsh for a minor who are unaware of the consequences of their action.

We suppose explosions and methane is not part of their learning syllabus yet at such an age.

Or perhaps the town builder could design a better sewage system to prevent such a build up of methane in the first place.

I think. One day, some local kid here is going to do the exact same thing,” said R to which netizen Hanis pointed out that it has already happened to another child on 27 Jan.

Hanis was likely referring to the unfortunate girl from Chongqing, China, or more specifically Longshui town as reported by the China Press.

Since this tragedy happened in China, expect some stereotypical comment directed at the mainland like bojomu who said his parents are done as they would get a social credit deduction of -9,999.

Just -9,999 social credit deduction? It should have been more. Regardless, we think massive explosions are highly entertaining this time of the year as long as it does not cause casualties.

However, we are certain that the boy’s parents and all the car drivers who incurred damages will not be amused. —Jan 31, 2025
