Boycotters target Skechers after its unveiling as Paris-bound Malaysian contingent’s shoe sponsor

PRO-Palestinian sympathisers have lauded the boycott of Skechers shortly after the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) revealed the American multinational footwear and apparel brand as the official footwear for the Malaysian contingent at the XXXIII Paris 2024 Olympics.

Leading the pack is social media influencer Ree Zha (@ItsReeZha) who berated the OCM for being overly insensitive to the plight of the Hamas inhabitants after Skechers came forward to equip the entire Malaysian Olympic contingent with 100 sets of high-performance footwear.

“OCM being so consistently irrelevant. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️” he fumed on the X platform in response to a tweet by Astro Awani’s sports journalist Fariha Razak (@farihaarazak) of OCM having partnered Skechers who is supporting Malaysia’s “Road to Gold” initiative for Olympic glory.

“Out of all the footwear in this world, why would you let the Zionist become a sponsor for Malaysia?”

In addition to the boycott of products that support the Israelis, Ree Zha also mooted a ‘boycott’ of the top brass in OCM, namely Malaysia’s chef de mission to Paris Olympics Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin and the council’s secretary-general Datuk Mohd Nazifuddin Najib.

“One even failed as a ⚽️ guard until the Sultan of Selangor was angry with him (referring to Hamidin). The other is son to @ Najib’s (referring to now incarcerated former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak) who is saddled with tax arrears amounting to RM1.7 bil and has yet to settle that amount,” fumed Ree Zha.

The momentum generated Ree Zha has surely rubbed off on many netizens, triggering them to train their guns on beloved-turned-controversial Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.

Ree Zha aside, another seemingly opposition-slant keyboard warrior, too, lambasted OCM for its gross insensitivity to the sufferings of Palestinians in light of the Gaza invasion by Tel Aviv. – July 8, 2024
