Buddhist leaders call for world peace during Goddess of Mercy Enlightenment Day

BUDDHIST leaders, Venerable Palden Nyima Rinpoche, The Most Venerable Datuk K. Sri Dhammaratana, Venerable Professor Bhante M. Seevali, and corporate leader Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew have called for world peace and humanity at the “Enlightenment Anniversary of Avalokitsvera (Goddess of Mercy) Blessing Ceremony” at the Mines Wellness City, Kuala Lumpur.

The free event jointly hosted by The Golden Horse Digital Investment Bank and Kunzang Chokhor Ling Buddhists Association was attended by over 500 visitors, and saw the Mines Wellness City transformed into a peaceful haven with over 200 majestic statues of the Goddess of Mercy.

These statues are special collection of Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew, founder of the Golden Horse Digital Investment Bank.

“We should embrace the compassion of the Goddess of Mercy even more today as we are faced with the pandemic and now the Ukraine-Russia war. War is never an answer to world peace,” said Venerable Palden Nyima Rinpoche, founder of Kunzang Chokhor Ling Buddhists Association.

Echoing the same sentiments are the Most Venerable Datuk K. Sri Dhammaratana, Chief Monk of Buddhist Maha Vihara and Venerable Professor Bhante M. Seevali of the Sri Jayanti Buddhist Temple in Kuala Lumpur.

“Just when we are heading towards the endemic stage of Covid-19, the war has started in Ukraine and we hope the world leaders will not press the nuclear button. Otherwise, we won’t be having this event at all,” said the Most Venerable Datuk K. Sri Dhammaratana.

“The Goddess of Mercy taught us love, peace, compassion and humanity. We should embrace these values in our life,” added Venerable Professor Bhante M. Seevali.

Among the upcoming events in the Mines Wellness City in conjunction with the Goddess of Mercy Enlightenment Day are Dhamma talks by Buddhist leaders from the three branches of Buddhism on 23–24 July, and the Three Branches Sangha Offering and Jang Chog Puja on August 7.

Over 300 monks led by Venerable Palden Nyima Rinpoche will conduct the Sangha Offering and Puja. The public are welcomed to join this big celebration at the Mines Wellness City. – July 19, 2022
